Orphanage in Tamil Nadu, India
From the founder:
After the tsunami devastated parts of India in late December 2004, I visited the area to see the destruction firsthand. Since I had previously been in this area several times, I had a special concern for these people. During my visit, I talked with some of the survivors and heard about the horrific events on that day. Packiyanathan and I decided to work together to start an orphanage where we could care for some of these children who had lost their parents and homes.
We now have 29 children in the orphanage. Our goal is to provide a home for 30 children. As funds are pledged, we will keep adding children until we reach 30. Any contribution is helpful and greatly appreciated. If you would be interested in sponsoring a child, you can do that for $50 per month. We can then send you the name of the child, along with a photo, and further information about the child. You will also have the opportunity to correspond with the child, if you wish to do so.
Once we reach our goal of 30 children in this orphanage, we hope to start more orphanages in other places in India. India has a population exceeding one billion people (about one-sixth of the world's population). An estimated 28% of the population lives in poverty conditions--comparable to the entire population of the USA. Thus, there are millions of children in dire conditions throughout India. We know that we can make a major and lasting impact on their lives. We will update this site as our plans progress. If you are interested in donating to the start-up cost of another orphanage, please contact us.

About the children
These are all children who were from very poor families before the tsunami and then were left completely destitute after the tsunami. When we brought them to the orphanage, they were thrilled to get three meals per day because most of them were eating one simple meal each day. We are working very hard to provide them with a safe and comfortable place to live with nutritious meals, good medical care, etc.
